The Rudbeckia hirta also known as the Black-Eyed Susan is a flowering plant. Also a traditional Native American medicinal herb believed to be a remedy for colds, flu, infection, swelling and snake bite. Parts of the plant have nutritional value but not all parts of the plant are edible. The Black-Eyed Susan was made the State Flower of Maryland in 1918.
