A dynamite explosion irreparably damaged Cleveland Art Museum's version of Rodin's The Thinker in March, 1970. No one was injured but the statue's base and lower legs were destroyed. It is believed that the vandalism was committed by a cell of the politically radical Weather Underground in protest of the Vietnam War. The statue was never repaired and remains outside the art museum in its damaged condition.
